Three wrestlers still alive for SHS

COLUMBIA -- Sikeston's Blake Angle and Kenton Robinson both stayed alive in their hunt for state titles on Thursday, each winning their first round match in the Class 3 state tournament.

Angle, wrestling in the 120-pound class, won a 7-4 decision over Demetrius Wilson of Fort Zumwalt North to improve to 43-8 on the season.

At 138, Robinson won a 4-1 decision over Jeff Held of Springfield Central to improve to 47-3. Both Robinson and Angle continued their matches in the championship round today.

Jacob Stinnett is also still alive for the Bulldogs. Stinnett, wrestling in the 132-pound division, lost his first match to Jeremy Goss of Staley after being pinned at 3:53. Stinnett rebounded and won a 5-3 decision over Will Eicher of Chaminade in wrestlebacks to remain alive.

Clay Porter, Nick Nichols, Clayton Driskill and Ben Walker were each eliminated on Thursday.

At 160, Porter lost his first match to James Townsend of Neosho after being pinned at 1:54. Porter was then pinned in wrestlebacks at 2:33 by Kenneth Moore of Hazelwood East, ending his season at 26-23.

Nichols, wrestling at 182, was pinned at 5:15 by Jake Laswell of Republic in his first match and then lost an 8-6 decision to Christopher Shirley of Ladue Horton Watkins in wrestlebacks. Nichols finishes the season with a 22-17 record.

Driskill, wrestling at 220, was pinned at 2:00 by Caleb Kotraba of Fort Zumwalt East in his first match and was then pinned at 4:54 by Thomas Ceja of Rolla in wrestlebacks. Driskill finishes the season at 36-21.

Walker, wrestling at 285, was pinned at 0:32 by Andrew Horsley of Lebanon before dropping a 4-2 decision to Xavier Jenkins of McCluer in wrestlebacks. Walker finished his season with a record of 24-17.

CLASS 1

In Class 1, Nathan Long of Versailles won by forfeit over Bryce Smith of New Madrid County Central in the 106-pound division. Smith then forfeited his wrestleback match to Jake Gipson of Plattsburg.

In the 182-pound division, NMCC's Austin Cummins won by pin over Polo's Wiley Martin at 3:19.

In the 285-pound class, NMCC's Brandon Western was pinned at 2:13 by Alex Luman of Richmond. Western won his wrestleback match by pinning Jonathan Veazy of Centralia at 1:37.

CLASS 2

In Class 2, Dexter's Trevor Waldner was pinned at 3:01 by Andy Wasson of Seneca in the 126-pound division. Waldner won his wrestleback match with a 14-10 decision over Grain Valley's Cameron Nadeau to stay alive.

At 132, Cameron's Landon Ocker won a 7-0 decision over Dexter's Morgan Dean. Dean then pinned Nick Scherer of MICDS at 1:55 in wrestlebacks to stay alive.

At 152, Dexter Dylan Bazarian was pinned by Grain Valley's Brad Sodano at 1:11. Bazarian's time at state ended in wrestlebacks when lost by technical fall (18-3) to Lucky Eads of Seneca.

At 160, Dexter's Cody Stevens won a 7-1 decision over Devon Overall of Monett.

At 170, Dexter's Brad Wick was pinned at 4:18 by Mexico's Sinjon Adams. Wick was eliminated in wrestlebacks, losing by pin at 1:57 to Bailey Wilson of Smithville.
