PORTAGEVILLE -- Aubrey Carter, 87, died Feb. 22, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in New Madrid.
Born Feb. 2, 1925, in Corinth, Miss., to the late James and Virginia Carter, he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Portageville. He was employed with McCrate Equipment for several years and later owned and operated Carter Transformer Service until his retirement. A U.S. Army veteran, he received decorations for his service in the European Theater during World War II.
On Oct. 2, 1966, in Portageville, he married Dorothy Frazier who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three daughters and two sons-in-law, Diana and Eugene Berry of Summerville, Sherry Spurlin of Collierville, Tenn., and Mary and Mike Rone of Portageville; two brothers, James Carter Jr. of Mims, Fla., and Jack Carter of Bloomsdale; a stepbrother, Billy Gibson of the state of Colorado; and eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Thomason and Earlene Bolen.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Portageville with the Rev. Dr. Buck Morton officiating.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
The DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville is in charge of arrangements.
