EAST PRAIRIE -- Elizabeth Marie Baker, 89, died at 12:10 a.m. Feb. 24, 2012, at the East Prairie Nursing Center.
Born Jan. 1, 1923, in New Madrid County near East Prairie to the late Clarence A. and Lena Marten Baker, she was a 1941 graduate of East Prairie High School. In 1943, she was employed as a secretary to the superintendent of East Prairie schools, a position she held for 41 years before retiring. The last 27 years of those years she also served as secretary for the Board of Education. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of East Prairie for 56 years.
She is survived by: one brother and sister-in-law, Clarence Leonard and Mary Baker; one sister, Marjorie Lee Baker of East Prairie; also several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, C.L. Baker, who died in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in East Prairie where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. George White, retired pastor, and the Rev. Jim Moore, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.
The McMikle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be: Steve Douglas, J.W. Grogan, Freddie Portwood, Marty Hutcheson, Joe Sorrells and Gary Hancock.
