DEXTER -- Ruth N. Wood, 86, died Feb. 24, 2012, at the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter.
Born Dec. 24, 1925, at Wardell, to the late Henry and Jennie Caraway Hickerson, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter. She was a former public school educator, working in various school districts, and the former assistant librarian at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar.
On Jan. 13, 1945, in Blytheville, Ark., she married Dr. Wayne Wood who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Tim Chamberlain of Dexter; a niece who was raised in the home, Sue Foster of Mountain View; and two grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren one step-great-grandchild.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son-in-law, the Rev. Duke Tolbert, three brothers, Rudolph Hickerson, Theodore Hickerson and Dallas Hickerson, and two sisters, Opal Willoughby and Gladys Ephlin.
Visitation is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with the Rev. Don Kennedy officiating.
Burial will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
