Area Republicans face challengers

JEFFERSON CITY -- The August primary election will bring several races to the area.

For State Senator from District 27, Wayne Wallingford of Cape Girardeau and Ellen Brandom of Sikeston have filed on the Republican ticket. No Democrat had filed on Tuesday at the Secretary of State's office in Jefferson City.

For the job of District 25 State Senator, Terry Swinger of Caruthersville has filed as a Democrat and will face either Republican Billy Pat Wright of Dexter or Doug Libla of Poplar Bluff following the primary.

Holly Rehder and Josiah Bill, both of Sikeston have filed as candidates for District 148 State Representative on the Republican ticket. Incumbent Democrat Steve Hodges of East Prairie is the sole candidate thus far in the 149th District.
