CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Velma Ruth Jackson, 90, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born April 17, 1921, in Vanduser, daughter of Thomas F. and Bertha R. Robinson Irvin.
She and Willard Eugene Hankins were married June 13, 1938, in Vanduser. On Aug. 18, 1951, she married Finnas Andrew "Bill" Jackson. He passed away June 25, 1979.
Velma was a teacher in the Morley (Scott County Central) School District for 35 years. She was a member of the Morley Church of God from childhood until her moving to the Cape Girardeau area where she attended West Side Church of God. She was an active leader of the Women of Church of God.
Loving survivors include: one son, William E. "Bill" (Helen) Jackson of Jackson; two granddaughters, Denah (Roger) Siebert of Millersville and Susanne (Sterling) Proctor of Benton; and four great-grandchildren, Michael Siebert, Colby Siebert, Matthew Proctor and Mitchell Proctor.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Matthews, pastor of Cape County Cowboy Church, officiating.
Interment will follow in Old Morley Cemetery in Morley.
