BENTON -- Materials for repairs to the Scott County Courthouse roof that are available here need to be bought here.
Bid specifications for rebuilding the flat roof over the north wing of the courthouse were discussed by county commissioners during their regular meeting Tuesday.
Presiding Commissioner Jamie Burger said they have repaired leaks to protect interior work already completed at the courthouse but the north wing's roof has reached the end of its lifespan.
"We've patched on that roof and patched on that roof," Burger said. "We're going for total replacement. The roof we have up there now is a hot-tar-and-gravel roof. We are going to a rubber membrane roof."
Commissioners went down the list of requirements for the project including that the contractor pay employees prevailing wages on the project and comply with the federal requirement for e-verification of immigration status for employees.
Bid specifications should also include a requirement that materials such as lumber for repairs to or rebuilding the roof's support structure be purchased within the county, Burger said.
Burger said he would like to have a draft of the bid specifications ready by Thursday.
