NEWPORT, Ark. -- Thelma Juanita Beaird, 85, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Harris Hospital in Newport.
She was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Hornersville, Mo., to the late A.L. and Dorsie Brown Horner. She graduated from business school in Memphis, Tenn., then received a bachelor's degree in education from Arkansas State University and a master's degree in education from Mississippi State University. She retired from Sikeston Public Schools after many years of teaching and was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
On Sept. 7, 1948, she married James M. Beaird who preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1997.
Survivors include: one son, James A. Beaird of Sikeston; one daughter, Jammie Beaird Hardin, and her husband, Jim, of Newport; three sisters, Leetha Shanks of Mathews, Mo., Betty Rose of Hornersville and Ruth Ann Franks of Shreveport, La.; and four grandchildren, Caroline Hardin Chang of St. Louis, Erin Hardin Harnedy of San Antonio, Nicole Beaird Goetz of Austin, Texas, and James Ryan Beaird of Murray, Ky.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Geraldine Horner, and an infant daughter, Anita Ann Beaird.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2012, at the Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.
Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
