East Prairie looking to better last year's mark

Saturday, March 10, 2012

EAST PRAIRIE -- Discouraged by their 8-10 season last year, the East Prairie Eagles are looking to turn things around.

Although they lost four starters and six seniors, the Eagles will take the field with their remaining five starters. Lost from last year's team are: Connor Scott, Mikey Russell, Aaron Miller, Alan Miller, Zach Barker, and Ryan Trankler

"If we are going to be successful this season we have got to have our 5 seniors step up and carry the load," East Prairie head coach Gary Scott said. "These guys have a lot of experience and should be ready to carry our team."

Dalton Golightly, Ryan Mathis, Zach Downing, Nathan Maynard and Shawn King will be who Scott relies on to lead his squad.

Golightly and Mathis will see the majority of the time on the mound for the Eagles, who lost a 2-0 decision to Bloomfield in the first round of districts last season. They finished last season with a combined 2-2 record, 30 innings pitched and 28 strikeouts between them.
