SIKESTON -- The Sikeston boys and girls track and field teams swept a dual meet against New Madrid County Central on Wednesday at Sikeston Public Schools Stadium.
Sikeston's boys defeated NMCC 122-22 while the girls posted a 69-32 victory.
"Not bad -- we came out and competed," Sikeston coach Terry Flannigan said. "I think for the biggest part, the kids got ready to go and got in a competitive mode. Overall, it's the first meet so you've got to be satisfied. We got out injury-free and we're looking for better things."
The Bulldogs swept all places in the jumping and relay events. Keldon Warfield had a pair of first place finishes in the long jump (21'7") and the 110 high hurdles (15.31). Also posting two first place finishes was distance runner Alan Lowe in the 1600 meters (5:15) and the 800 meters (2:19).
On the girls side, Brandy Peet won first place in the long (15-7) and triple jumps (35-6). Yolonda Johnson won first place in the 100 hurdles (18.37) and 300 hurdles (54.71). Chazeton Redd won first place in the 100 meters (12.25) and 200 meters (28.46).
"Our two speed relay teams on the boys side did pretty good and our 4 x 400 didn't run too bad," Flannigan said. "Our girls relay team, we just kind of threw that together -- we don't have a whole lot of girls. Alan Lowe, in the mile and two mile, he's doing real good."
Sikeston will next host Cape Central next Wednesday in another dual meet.
