KELSO -- Alfred A. Menz, 88, died March 21, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Nov. 2, 1923, in New Hamburg, to the late Theon and Bertha Hahn Menz, he was U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He worked at Missouri Electric Works, Missouri Utilities and retired from Procter and Gamble. He was a member of VFW in Scott City, a Fourth Degree member and trustee of Thomas A. Langen Assembly 568 and Knights of Columbus 1111 in Cape Girardeau, a member of St. Augustine Parish and Men's Club and served 25 years on the school board of Kelso C-7 School District. He was also a volunteer with St. Francis Medical Center Auxiliary.
On June 27, 1953, at Kelso, he married Helen B. Diebold who survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Cecilia and Jim Seiler and LaVerne and Kenny Dirnberger of Benton; five sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Donna Menz and Denis and Linda Menz of Kelso, Greg and Denise Menz of Benton, Steve and Jenifer Menz of Boerne, Texas, and Tim and Bonnie Menz of Jackson; and 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. today at the St. Augustine Church. Parish prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Oliver Clavin officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in the St. Augustine Cemetery.
The Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel of Scott City is in charge of arrangements.
