Supreme Court ruling will cut county sales tax revenue

CHARLESTON -- A Missouri Supreme Court decision on sales tax charged for motor vehicles will have a significant effect on county revenue, according to local officials.

Carlin Bennett, presiding commissioner, said during the the regular Mississippi County Commission meeting Thursday that a Supreme Court decision made Jan. 31 that went into effect Wednesday will result in the county losing its top source of sales tax revenue.

Bennett said a lot of people think Reeves Boomland is the biggest source of sales tax revenue for the county but it is actually the license bureau.
