SIKESTON -- Spurlin Beck, 85, died March 16, 2012, at the Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston.
He was born April 23, 1926, in Matthews, son of the late Spurlin Beck Sr. and Birdie Duke Beck. He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marine serving in World War II and again in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He farmed and was involved in many other business ventures.
On Feb. 11, 1951, he married George Anna Johnston, and she survives of the home in Sikeston.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sandra Beck of Huntsville, Ala.; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Stiegler of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister and brother-in-law, Jewel and Warren Harber; and three grandchildren, Christopher Stiegler, Camille Stiegler and Samantha (Corey) Clark.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Visitation was from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 19, at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.
Burial followed with full military honors at 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. The Rev. John Goodwin of the Presbyterian Church of Sikeston officiated.
