PORTAGEVILLE -- The Portageville Lady Bulldogs ended New Madrid County Central's unprecedented 54-game winning streak Thursday beating the Lady Eagles 7-1.
Portageville's Jenna Hawkins picked up the win limiting NMCC to just three hits and striking out 11.
"They have a good ball club and they just outplayed us today," NMCC head coach Steve Rodgers said. "I wish we could have fielded the ball a little better."
The Lady Bulldogs pounded out 17 hits against NMCC starter Michaela Townsend, who pitched six innings and struck out six.
Dallas Campbell drove in the Lady Eagles' only run on an RBI triple to score Anna Manley. Whitney Williams had the only other NMCC hit.
Portageville wasted no time going ahead early. The Lady Bulldogs began the game with six consecutive hits.
Taylor McCoy drove in Allison Pepper for their first run while Amber Isaaks blasted a two-run triple one batter later.
The Lady Bulldogs put up three more in the sixth after Haley Corbett hit Portageville's second triple of the game. Corbett's triple unloaded the bases scoring McCoy, Isaaks and Jennifer Ifland.
Ifland had four hits for Portageville. Hawkins added three hits, while Isaaks and Corbett each had two hits.
"I hate to see (the streak) end," Rodgers said. "It's been a good run that's spanned for three seasons and a little bit into another. Portageville just beat us today."
