BENTON, Ky. -- Helen Marie Nimmo, 92, died at 11:22 a.m. April 22, 2012, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield.
Born Aug. 8, 1919, in Commerce, Mo., to the late Will and Alta Smith Hawkins, she was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and of Murray State University. She was a teacher at Benton Elementary School for 35 years and a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Benton where she taught Sunday School for over 24 years.
She married Jim Nimmo who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, William "Buddy" Hawkins, and one sister, Billie Ann Hawkins Dunger.
She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Donald and Amanda Nimmo of Paducah; two sisters, Martha Frances Kozesky of Latrobe, Pa., and Alva Jane Hanheide of Green Valley, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Faria Marie P'Pool of Cadiz and Daniel Vasseur of Atlanta; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. today at the Collier Funeral Home in Benton where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Revs. Marvin Jones and Ben Boone officiating.
Burial will follow at the Benton Cemetery in Benton.
