Plans for Courthouse centennial celebration are progressing

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

BENTON -- Arrangements for the Scott County Courthouse's centennial celebration are moving along.

Deborah Gunter, corresponding secretary, and Glenda Milam, member, of the Scott County Historical and Genealogy Society met with Scott County Commissioners during their regular meeting Tuesday to discuss ongoing planning for the courthouse celebration set for June 16 at the courthouse.

"Hopefully we'll have a good turnout," Burger said.

Based on attendance at an event held in October at a county cemetery, Gunter said they could easily end up with 1,000 visitors and that parking could be a problem.

"Word is getting out," Presiding Commissioner Jamie Burger agreed.

Commissioners and Historical Society members agreed to meet again at 10 a.m. May 15.

Burger said he hopes to "have to have our agenda nailed down" by then.

Once an agenda for the celebration is set, it should be sent to local media, posted on the county website and posted in public places around the county, he said.
