Free program will help give edge to area business owners

Thursday, April 26, 2012

SIKESTON - In today's economy, business owners are looking for that edge to move them ahead.

The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce and the Douglas C. Greene Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Southeast Missouri State University are partnering to provide a program to pave the way to that entrepreneurial success.

Mastering Your Business is a free business program which will be designed by and for the local participants. It will include a needs assessment, custom-designed training, one-on-one business coaching, financial analysis, mystery shopping, exclusive incentives and lots of information.

"Anymore there is lifelong learning because the way we do business changes each and every day," said Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce Director Missy Marshall. "There are very few individuals who don't have to go back to school or get training. Here is one way to gain further education without it costing anything."

Marshall is encouraging new business owners as well as those who have been in business for years to latch on to the opportunity to take the class. After all, she emphasized, it will be tailored specifically for the participants.

"I think this is great," said Marshall. "It narrows the offerings so they aren't covering things not applicable."

According to Marshall, the participants will sit down with the staff and tell them what they are looking for from the program as small business owners. Concerns could range from accounting to employee-human resource issues to social networking.
