Barrel Bob, a 10-foot-tall man made of orange construction barrels, helped the Southeast District of the Missouri Department of Transportation celebrate Work Zone Awareness Week on Wednesday. Situated just outside of Scott City, Barrel Bob seeks to remind drivers of the need for work zone safety. According to District Engineer Mark Shelton, 701 people were injured in Missouri work zones last year, which was down from 1,036 in 2010. "We want to make sure this progress continues. Our goal is to educate the public, as well as our employees and contractors, to ensure everyone gets home safe at the end of each day," Shelton said in a news release. Preparing to move Barrel Bob to his next location are MoDOT employees Danny Heuring, Richard Kern and Craig Duncan.
