SHS soccer falls at Marion; Jays' baseball snaps losing streak

MARION, Ill. -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs fell to Marion, Ill., Thursday 3-1.

Madison Chaney scored her 14th goal of the season in the loss.

Sikeston (5-9) fell behind 2-1 at the half in another windy contest. With the assist from Monica Carter, Chaney punched in the Lady Bulldogs' only goal in the 35th minute.

"The wind was a huge factor," Sikeston head coach Doyle Noe said. "Our defense was really flat and not moving very well tonight."

Marion scored their goals early in the contest going up 2-0 within the first 10 minutes.

Sikeston will host Poplar Bluff Monday at the Sikeston Sports Complex with junior varsity starting at 5 p.m.

The Sikeston JV tied with Marion Thursday 1-1. Alexis Odom scored their only goal.


Charleston 12, Hayti 2

HAYTI -- The Charleston Bluejays snapped a 14-game losing streak with a 12-2 win over Hayti on Thursday.

Trey Watkins earned the win on the mound for Charleston (2-15), allowing no earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out six.

Michael Baugh had two hits, including a double and two RBI while Chance Maness had two hits and a double with two RBI.

Scott City 15, Meadow Heights 0

SCOTT CITY -- Hunter Cox, Heath Pobst and Brett Dirnberger combined to throw a no-hitter in the Rams' five-inning 15-0 win over Meadow Heights.

Cox struck out two and walked three over the first two innings before Pobst fanned four and walked one over the next two innings. Dirnberger struck out two in the fifth to nail down the no-hitter.

Logan Henson went 2 for 3 with four RBIs, while Ryan Fortner added a pair of hits and two RBIs. Austin Atchley also plated a pair for the Rams (8-6).

Notre Dame 15, South Pemiscot 1

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Notre Dame gave up an early run to South Pemiscot on Thursday but then blistered the Bulldogs with 15 unanswered runs in a 15-1 win.

Notre Dame had only seven hits but took advantage of seven South Pemiscot errors.

NMCC 9, Bernie 3

BERNIE -- The New Madrid County Central softball team defeated Bernie 9-3 on Thursday, improving to 14-1 on the season.

Michaela Townsend earned the win after pitching a complete game, allowing 11 hits while walking one and striking out eight.

Mary Clara Hayes finished 3 for 4 with two doubles while Dallas Campbell was 3 for 4 with a double. Meredith Stanley added a three-run double in the seventh inning.

NMCC will host Holcomb on Monday at 4 p.m.
