1 killed, several hurt in weekend accidents

KENNETT - A Southeast Missouri resident died in a single-vehicle accident Sunday evening.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, Stephen D. Murrell, 41, of Kennett was driving southbound on Route NN, two and half miles south of Highway 412 when his vehicle ran off the road. The vehicle then struck farm equipment.

Murrell was pronounced dead at the scene by Pemiscot Coroner Jim Brimhall at 12:37 a.m. today. The Patrol noted this was the 15th fatality of 2012 in the Troop E area.

Another single-vehicle accident occurred in Stoddard County at 5 p.m. Sunday, as Tony R. Roper, 52, of Dexter was driving his motorcycle westbound on Stoddard County Road 511, one mile south of Bloomfield. The Patrol reported Roper's vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a stop sign.
