Sides honored as Woman of the Year in New Madrid

NEW MADRID - A lifelong resident was honored Sunday afternoon for her dedication to her community and devotion to others.

Elizabeth Belle "Betty Belle" Sides was named the as the 2012 Woman of the Year, an honor presented annually by the Pi Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. In making the presentation, Lynette Fowler described Sides' "many wonderful attributes, such as her strong faith, her love for family and her commitment to work and to her community."

Sides, in more than two decades as a teacher at Immaculate Conception School, impacted many children, Fowler noted. Also she continues to be involved with the school through her grandchildren.
