CHARLESTON -- A county resident called in by the Mississippi County Commission to discuss the condition of his property says he is doing the best he can and will keep it up.

A public hearing called by Ken Stevenson, county code enforcement officer, for a property out of compliance with the county's nuisance property ordinance was conducted Thursday during the regular County Commission meeting.

The property is located on Highway 80 near the entrance to the Powers Subdivision. Stevenson said he sent a letter Tuesday advising a public hearing would be scheduled and that the property owner is entitled to a 10-day notice.

The property owner, Billy Cartwright, said he agreed to show up Thursday for a hearing as he will be unavailable next week.
