Risco stays alive with 11-1 rout of Clarkton

Tuesday, May 15, 2012

HOLCOMB -- Backed by four shutout innings from starting pitcher Chris Pavy the Risco Tigers picked up a 11-1 win over Clarkton in the opening round of the Class 1, District 1 Tournament.

After loading the bases to start the bottom of the first Risco saw a quick pair of strikeouts lave the Tigers one out from stranding all three runners. A double from Josh Earnheart in the next at bat, however, cleared the bases and put the Tigers up 3-0.

Up to bat again in the third Earnheart singled in another two runs to account for Risco's first five RBI's in the contest.

Scoring another three runs combined in the fourth and fifth the Tigers pushed ahead 8-0 before Clarkton plated its only run of the frame in the top of the sixth. In answering with a three-run rally in the bottom of the frame Risco was able to end the game on the mercy-rule.

To pick up the win Pavy went a full four innings, giving up four singles and a walk while striking out seven. His counterpart Logan Blackburn took the loss as he also pitched four innings and fanned eight.

With a 3 for 3 performance Pavy also led the Tigers at the plate. He reached in all four at-bats, collecting a triple and a home run with three runs scored and three runs driven in.

Jordon Pavy and Earnheart had two, including a triple and a double respectively. Luke Bixler added a solo home run in the fifth to Risco's cause.

Next up the Tigers will face tournament host Holcomb today in the semifinals at 1 p.m.
