SIKESTON -- Kenneth Feariel James, 69, died May 18, 2012, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 7, 1942, in Detroit, to the late Imogene James, he was raised by his grandparents, the late Jasper and Elva James. He graduated from Bell City High School and retired from the U.S. Army in 1976 as a staff sergeant after 16 years of service. He then worked for the state of Missouri until he retired due to poor health. He was a member of the Trinity Gospel Church in Sikeston.
On July 24, 1967, in Bell City, he married Betty Ruth Hawkins, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Lenny and Brenda Hawkins and Denny and Kristy Hawkins; and two daughters, Betty Hawkins and Kimberley James.
He is also survived by grandsons Glenn Jones and wife Wendi and Justin Hawkins and wife Patty; and granddaughters Courtney Hawkins, Lilia Rushing and Emma Baker; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his mother and grandparents, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth F. James Jr., and a grandson, Timothy Shay Jones.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2012, at the Ponder Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Leonard Meyers officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the Morgan Cemetery in Advance.
