EAST PRAIRIE -- Earl D. Simpkins, 84, died at 1:20 p.m. May 22, 2012, at his home.
Born Jan, 20, 1928, in Hornersville, to the late Earl Lockhart and Dora Kathleen Pollard Simpkins, he lived most of his life in East Prairie where he was a member of the First Baptist Church. A retired sales representative for Beaver Janitorial Services, he was a veteran of t#he U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.
On Aug. 2, 1947, in Hernando, Miss., he married Mary Alice Furlong who survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by several special nieces and nephews.
One daughter, Kathy Sue Simpkins, three brothers, Paul Simpkins, J.T. Simpkins and Pollard Finley, and three sisters, Marie Abner, Louise Melton and Lorene Bailey, preceded him in death.
Visitation is for 6 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday with Jon Archie and George White officiating.
Burial with full military honors conducted by the Brown-Twitty American Legion Post No. 595 of New Madrid will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Ronnie Byassee, Ronnie Byassee Jr., Shawn Archie, Mickey Abner, J.C. Abner and Johnny Venarsky.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Abner, James Furlong, Randall Blankenship and Avery Hutcheson.
