NEW MADRID -- Mamie Alice Harris was born July 1, 1919, in Lamar, Ark., the daughter of the late Rufus Ewell Pearson and Viola May Pearson. She passed from this life May 26, 2012, at the age of 92.
On Dec. 15, 1934, in Clarksville, Ark., she married Chester A. Harris; the marriage spanned 55 years before he preceded her in death.
She is survived by: three sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Pat Harris of Sikeston, Bobby and Shirley Harris of Batesville, Ark., and Gerald and Becky Harris of Rogers, Ark.; one sister, Mildred Carter of Mathews; one brother, Namon Pearson of Sikeston; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild; many nephews and nieces; and other relatives and many good friends.
In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by a brother, Ira Pearson, one sister, Erla Dean Sullivan, and a great-grandson, Kyle Harris, who had lived in Mississippi.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. today at the Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid with Ed Thomason, Jordan Blair and Pat Hogan officiating.
Burial followed in Mounds Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.
