QUINCY, Ill. -- John H. Wellman, 79, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died May 9, 2012, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Born Jan. 10, 1933, son of the late Wilbur and Louise Schreacke Wellman, he was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Sikeston, served in the U.S. Army and had worked as a college professor at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., and as a self-employed certified public accountant.
On Jan. 26, 1957, in Alexandria, Va., he married Alice Goodpaster who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, John C. Wellman of St. Louis; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Cindy and Dexter Drerup of Blue Springs, Mo., Sue and Roy Myracle of Newburgh, Ind., Sherry and Mike Partin of Sikeston, Jane Capshaw of Evansville, Ind., and Beth Daniels of Harrison, Ark.; one sister, Carlene Waack; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Obert and Bernice Petro.
A funeral Mass was celebrated May 14 at the St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Quincy with the Rev. Tom Fox officiating.
Burial with military rites followed in the Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
