MOREHOUSE -- Herbert Roosevelt Brown Jr., 83, died at 7:30 a.m. June 5, 2012, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born March 28, 1929, in Sanford, N.C., to the late Herbert Roosevelt and Estelle Underwood Brown Sr., he retired as a panel operator after 28 years of service working at Hart's Bakery and later I.B.C. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a staff sergeant and served on two tours of active duty. On March 29, 1989, he retired from the Army Reserves and the National Guard. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Morehouse and Henry Meldrum Post of American Legion and a former member of the Sikeston Masonic Lodge.
On May 28, 1960, he married Betty Ruth Roach, and she survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Kathy Brown of Morehouse; four sisters, Janette Clanton and Betty Phillips of Swansboro, N.C., Mamie Capps of Jacksonville, N.C., and Lois Martin of Maysville, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Valerie and Josh Holman of Sikeston and Andrew Brown and Bethany Brown of Morehouse.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. J.D. McClard, pastor of The Country Church, and the Rev. Randy Conn, pastor of First Baptist Church of Morehouse, will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will follow at noon in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Pallbearers will be: David Roach, Brian Dial, Jerence Dial, Austin Dial, Mike Tackett and Ryan Tackett.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Garland Hughes and Alton Bohannon.
