MATTOON, Ill. -- Jeanette Marie Cunningham Wedel, 88, died at 11:18 a.m. June 16, 2012, died at 11:18 a.m. June 16, 2012.
Born May 13, 1924, in Mattoon, daughter of the late Bruce D. and Erma E. (Wooldridge) Cunningham, she was a lifelong resident of Mattoon. After graduation from Mattoon High School, she became employed at the Journal-Gazette and worked there from 1942-1946 and 1953-1962. She and her husband became co-owners of Mid-Continent Reproduction in 1962, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as deacon, elder, trustee and Moderator of Women's Association. She also served on Smorgasbord, Christian Education and Membership and Evangelism Committees. She was involved in Zonta where she held many offices of the local chapter and was governor of the sixth district of Zonta International.
On June 15, 1946, in Paducah, Ky., she married George W. "Brownie" Wedel, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 1997.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, George W. "Bill" Cunningham.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana W. and Philip Chartrau of Sikeston, Mo., and Sally J. and John Tucker of Burnsville, Minn.; and five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from noon until time of memorial services at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 10 Charleston Ave., in Mattoon with the Rev. Art Woolverton officiating.
Burial will be at Dodge Grove Cemetery at a later date.
