Friday, June 22, 2012

BENTON -- An alert Scott County resident helped to end an apparent string of burglaries from vehicles early Thursday.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office received a report early Thursday morning from a person who confronted a suspect outside his residence, north of Miner. After being confronted, the suspect ran and hid in a nearby cornfield, leaving a bicycle at the residence, the homeowner reported.

According to Sheriff Rick Walter, Scott County deputies accompanied by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and officers with the Miner Police Department located the suspect identified as Curtis P. Williams, 20, of Cape Girardeau. Also they discovered evidence the suspect may be involved in stealing from nearby residences, Walter said.
