CHARLESTON -- John C. "Johnny" Slaten, 49, died June 25, 2012, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born Dec. 7, 1962, in Cairo, Ill., to Gene and Ruth Steward Slaten who survive of Charleston, he was a 1981 graduate of Charleston High School and studied computer science at M.I.T. He had been employed with Ohio Decorative Products Inc. as vice president of communication services until 2003. He attended the First Baptist Church in Charleston, and had been active in civil war reenactments for 15 years.
On Oct. 28, 1983, he married Robin Pazdera, who survives of the home.
Survivors include: one son, Bobby Slaten of Charleston; one daughter, Elizabeth Slaten of Charleston; two brothers, Gordon Slaten of Charleston and Steve Slaten of Cape Girardeau; and one sister, Mary Susan Ponder of Sikeston.
Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Michael Brewer, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, and George Copeland of Cadiz, Ky., will officiate.
Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be fellow Civil War Reenactors: Allen Winthrop, Tim Sheeks, Gene Kissiar, Scott Parker, Jeff Allen and Mike Pierpoint.
