Animal cruelty is investigated

CARUTHERSVILLE -- The Hayti Police Department, Hayti Animal Control Officer and the Caruthersville Humane Society are seeking information concerning an animal abuse case.

According to Hayti Chief of Police Paul Sheckell, officers responded to a call near South Mallory and West Lincoln concerning a possible animal abuse case. Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant and discovered an empty lot with three deceased animals and three living animals chained on the property. Hayti Police then contacted Animal Control Officer, Ricky Hooper and the Caruthersville Humane Society.
