CHARLESTON -- Hot, dry conditions constitute a public emergency in Mississippi County by placing the public's health and safety in jeopardy, according to officials.
County Commissioners approved during their regular meeting Thursday a resolution supporting the no burn order signed by the county rural fire district's two fire chiefs, Robert Hearnes, northern district fire chief, and Kyle Hutcheson, chief of the southern district.
The ban is to remain in effect until further notice.
The resolution states the Commission "desires to take action to address the critical extreme fire conditions that exist in the county" and notes "that the public health and safety is at extreme risk."
