Scott County takes Bulls by the horns

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Blasting over 25 hits the Scott County Junior Legion Post 369 baseball team defeated the 14U Missouri Bulls 23-9 Tuesday at Notre Dame Regional High School in Cape Girardeau.

Scott County had 26 hits in the contest led by Layne Sties who went 4 for 7 with three runs scored and six RBI.

Gaven Ray added a 4 for 4 day at the plate with four runs while Lane Henson, Zach Carlyle, Zane Eggiman and Trevor Job all had three hits apiece. Justin Gephardt, Ryan Lohmann and Mitchell Heisserer all added two hits.

Henson, who also drove in five runs at the plate, got the win on the mound as well.

Post 369's hurler pitched for three innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits and two walks. He also struck out four.

Scott County, who end their regular season with a 15-15 record, will begin district play Friday against Jackson at 8 p.m. during the Junior Legion District Tournament at VFW Memorial Stadium in Sikeston.
