Gary Fortner

BLOOMFIELD -- Gary Alan Fortner, 69, died July 4, 2012.

Born July 13, 1944 in Detroit, son of Louise Waggoner and the late Norman Fortner, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1968, achieving the rating of Aviation Boatswain's mate Fuels Second Class Petty Officer, receiving multiple decorations including Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals, Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation Medal. He worked as a production line supervisor at Purolator and Primary Children's Hospital Supply Department. He was a member of the Canyon Baptist Church.

His wife, Linda Brother Fortner, died July 6, 2012.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Sherry Lynn Fortner; and a brother, John Fortner.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: three daughters, Lori Fortner Hawkins, Shannon Fortner and Nikkco Fortner; one sister, Candy Waggoner Miller; one brother, Norman Thomas "Clipper" Fortner II; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Burial will follow at a later date in Bloomfield.
