DEXTER -- The Rev. Doyle Corlew, 93, died July 15, 2012, at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter.
Born June 18, 1919, in Essex, to the late William Chester "Bill" and Versie Helen Kimbrell Corlew, he had lived in Essex and Dexter all his life. He graduated from Oakland City General Baptist College and received a master's degree in education and counseling. He was a retired counselor from the Richland R-1 School District and was a General Baptist minister for over 60 years, pastoring the Olive Branch General Baptist Church until shortly before his death.
On May 11, 1940, in Essex, he married Vera Verneta Blevins who preceded him in death July 6, 1996. On Sept. 2, 1998, at Dexter, he married Altha Hawley who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary Corlew and David and Norma Corlew of Essex; two stepdaughters, Karen Hartie of Brookline and Melba Matthews of Springdale, Ark.; one sister, Wanda Owens of Eldorado, Ill.; and three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Lana Jean Corlew and Doylene Corlew, one sister, Helen Crutcher, and one brother, Charles William Corlew.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. today at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter will officiate
Burial will follow in the Triplett Cemetery in Dexter.
