EAST PRAIRIE -- Virgie Alice "Lady" Lawfield, 84, died at 1 a.m. July 21, 2012, in the East Prairie Nursing Center.
Born May 14, 1928, in New Madrid County, to the late Siebert O'Bannon and Alice Lewis Wescoat, she was a Democratic committeewoman in New Madrid County. She was also a charter member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the New Madrid and East Prairie Eagles Clubs.
On May 28, 1946, she married Thomas W. Lawfield Sr. who preceded her in death on June 24, 1997.
She was also preceded in death by her twin brother Virgil Siebert Wescoat; and one sister, Shirley Hector.
Survivors include: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Tommy and Joyce Lawfield of Catron, Virgil "Butch" Lawfield of East Prairie and Randy "Peewee" and Teresa Lawfield of Kewanee; two brothers, James Wescoat of Mascoutah, Ill., and John Wescoat of New Madrid; four sisters, Betty Clark of New Madrid, Ruth Phillips of New Madrid, Joan Smith of LaForge and Judy Richards of Sikeston; and seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted today at the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid with Timmy Farrenburg officiating.
Pallbearers were Jarrett Lawfield, Trey Lawfield, Derek Lawfield, Doc Cowan, John Paul Wescoat and Paul Wayne Wescoat.
Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie was in charge of arrangements.
