BURLINGTON, Colo. -- Out of eight teams that made the trek to Burlington, Colo., the Sikeston 12U All-Star softball team did better than expected.

Sikeston placed fourth in the 2012 12U Midwest Plains Regional softball tournament.

"We beat some good teams and I think we did a lot better than anyone expected us to do," Sikeston coach Doyle Noe said.

The double-elimination tournament included teams from Colorado, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. Pool play kicked off July 19 and extended into the 20th. During bracket play, Sikeston lost their first game, won their second and was sent home following their third.

The highlight of their trip came during their contest against Kansas. Facing an 8-0 deficit, Sikeston was able to muster a comeback to force extra innings and, eventually, win the game.

"Overall, the girls did very well," said Noe. "There were a lot of competitive teams and we stuck with the top ones there. I'm very proud of the girls and what they were able to accomplish."
