CHARLESTON -- A local program is providing new opportunities for children in the Charleston community.
The Sy Williams Multimedia and Music Arts Academy started meeting on Feb. 4. It provides instruction for children in middle school and high school.
The program provides two ways to participate: either through the multimedia academy or the music academy.
In the multimedia academy, students have worked on various projects, such as using photographs taken in their neighborhoods to make movies with Windows Movie Maker, according to Dr. Tamara Zellars Buck, a mass media professor at Southeast Missouri State University and the program's coordinator.
