EAST PRAIRIE -- When classes resume later this month, East Prairie R-2 students will return to a cooler campus -- literally.
"These schools are the community, and we take pride in that," said East Prairie R-2 Superintendent Scott Downing.
Throughout the summer, renovations and repairs have taken place at all buildings in the district. Among those was installing air conditioning for the first time at some facilities and replacing older units that were well past their life expectancies in other buildings.
Downing noted now all of the facilities in the district are air conditioned.
In April, a $1.5 million bond issue was passed with over a 90-percent voter approval to fund renovations and repairs without increasing the district's current debt service property tax levy.
