BLOOMFIELD -- Delmer R. Underwood, 87, died Aug. 2, 2012, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born June 16, 1925, in Bloomfield, to the late Roy and Josie Quick Underwood, he had lived in Bloomfield all of his life where he was the former mayor. He and his brother had owned and operated the Underwood Service Station in Bloomfield for 36 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and a member of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He was a member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge 153 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite and a lifetime member of the Amvets.
On July 6, 1948, in Piggott, Ark., he married Imogene Wilkison, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: three brothers, Elmer Underwood, Steve Underwood and John Underwood of Bloomfield; one sister, Geneva Grim of Dexter; and two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
On Nov. 13, 2006, his son, Delmer Dale Underwood, preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. Monday at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Dan Sitze of Dexter officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
