CHARLESTON -- Bryan Royce Viets Jr., 82, died at 10 a.m. Aug. 5, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Feb. 17, 1930, in Barlow, Ky., to the late Bryan Royce and Annie Keller Viets, he lived in Charleston for the past several years moving from East Prairie where he was a member of the First Christian Church. He was a retired riverboat captain for Ingram Barge Line, formerly Medlin Barge Line, and a lifetime member of the Wickliffe Masonic Lodge 625 AF&AM.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice Campbell Viets, on Oct. 5, 1985, and by a stepson, Floyd Husk, a brother, Tommy Viets, and a sister Laura Ann Olmstead.
On Aug. 19, 1988, at East Prairie, he married Jane Uthoff Evans, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Cathy Evans of Holden; one stepdaughter, Patsy Whittenberg of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Mina Carter of Clinton, Ky.; and two grandsons.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery with Jason Evans of the First Christian Church officiating.
