Scores rise during second night of competition

SIKESTON -- After a disappointing start to the bull riding competition on opening night, things heated up on Thursday as riders capped the second day of the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo with much improved scores.

All four riders to complete their rides in the night's main event posted scores in the 80's to easily eclipse Wednesday night's leader, Lucas Guilbeau, who posted a 79. Leading the pack was Trey Benton III, who rode bull Two Faced for a score of 86.

In second place was Cody Rostocky with an 83 while Danny Schlobohm and Howdy Cloud tied for third as each scored an 80.

Opening up the night was bareback riding, where Bill Tutor edged out Tim O'Connell with a score of 87. O'Connell posted an 86 to take second while Brian Leddy and Evan Jayne each scored 79 to tie for third.

In steer wrestling, Cale Emmett easily out-paced the competition with a time 3.9 seconds while Mitch Morem's time of 5 seconds left him with second place. Josh Peek completed his run in 5.2 seconds for third.

Cody Taton's score of 83 led all comers in saddle bronc riding while Samuel Kewlts posted an 81 to take second place. With a score of 78, Taos Nuncy was third in the event.

Finishing in 8.4 seconds, Cody McCartney was the fastest on the night in tie down roping. Josh Peek and P.J. Spencer came in second and third with times of 10.2 and 11.3 seconds respectively.

In team roping two teams tied for first place on the night with a time of five seconds. The first duo to hit the mark was Garrett Tonozzi and Kinney Dale Harrell while Ty Blasingame and Skelton soon matched the mark. In third was Will George and Chad Day, who completed their run in 5.8 seconds.

In barrel racing the top four positions were decided by less than a second. Marne Loosenort was fastest on the night with a run of 16.62 seconds, edging out Robin Beck's time of 16.97. Samantha Davis and Jill Tanner took third and fourth places with times of 17.08 and 17.53 respectively.
