CHARLESTON -- Mississippi County officials were assured mowing will be increased around the county airport even if the hay harvest is down.
Bill Taylor met with County Commissioners during their regular meeting Thursday as requested to discuss the care of county-owned fields around the airport.
For many years, some of the land around the airport, which is owned by the county, was maintained by an individual who agrees to maintain the property in exchange for the right to harvest hay from it.
During the Aug. 2 County Commission meeting, Tom Jones of East Prairie, who was the land's caretaker prior to Taylor, advised commissioners he would be willing to mow the land several times per year if put in change of the land again while noting that Taylor has only been mowing once per year.
