CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Geraldine Masterson Rodgers, 85, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at her home in Cape Girardeau with her daughters by her side.
Born Sept. 6, 1926, in New Madrid, daughter of the late Jack and Florence Mast Masterson, she worked for Sears in Cape Girardeau and Target in Houston, Texas. A member of the First Pentecostal Church in Cape Girardeau, she loved to travel and be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a die-hard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the North Carolina Tarheels men's basketball.
On Aug. 22, 1946, in New Madrid, she married John Wiley Rodgers who preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2006, after 59 years of marriage.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, John Wiley Rodgers Jr., two sisters, Margaret Davis and Maxine Barron, and three brothers, Jackie Masterson, William Masterson and Jimmie Lee Masterson.
She is survived by: three daughters and one son-in-law, Mary Jean and Richard Harmon of Liberty Township, Ohio, and Jo Ann Hearnes and Linda Underdown of Cape Girardeau; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Nadine and Pete Vent of New Madrid and Carolyn Vent of Parma; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Carrell Masterson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two grandsons and their wives, John Robert and Jamie Hearnes of Murfreesboro and David and Hallie Hearnes of Knoxville, Tenn.; two granddaughters and their husbands, Angela and Ronnie Aber of Ft. Thomas, Ky., and Geri and Tyler McKellar of Wickliffe, Ohio; six great-grandchildren, Joshua Wiley Hearnes, Caroline Elizabeth Moore, Graysen Douglas Aber, September Grace McKellar, Jackson Caleb Hearnes and Joseph Douglas Aber; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, at the Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Visitation will continue from 11 a.m. until time of services scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at the New Madrid Pentecostal Church in New Madrid. The Rev. Darrell E. Faire Sr. will officiate.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.
