SIKESTON -- Andy McGill, R-6 athletic director, briefed the board on the 2011-2012 Bulldog athletics season.
He said 213 boys lettered in a varsity or junior varsity sport and 149 girls lettered in a varsity or junior varsity sport, which are a bit higher than the 10-year averages of 202 for boys and 137 for girls.
Seventeen local scholarships were awarded in the school year. Thirty-one students were first team all-conference honorees, 16 students were first team all-district selections and nine were named first team all-state.
The softball team was named first team all-state in academics with four girls named individually -- Sarah Dixon, Annie Ramey, Maggie Shepherd and Paige Sailors.
The football team was named first team all-state in academics with two boys named individually -- Clayton Driskill and Benjamin Walker. The football team also qualified for the state playoffs for the third year in a row.
Boys' soccer team was district champions, sectional champions and finished the year ranked No. 6 in the state final poll.
The volleyball team was conference champs and conference tourney champs.
In boys track, the 4 by 100 relay team finished first place, making it the first Sikeston relay team with a first place finish at state.
