SIKESTON -- Eugene "Doak" Dawson died Aug. 17, 2012, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
Eugene was born in Eugene, Mo., to the late Elijah and Fairy Patterson Dawson.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, James Dawson; and two sisters Naomi Spalding and Dorothy Hensley.
He was a high school teacher and coach for Sikeston Public Schools for 20 years and was the golf pro at the Sikeston Country Club for over 20 years. He served in the United States Army from August 1945 until February 1947.
On May 2, 1949, in Piggot, Ark., he married Betty Vangilder who survives of the home.
He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Sikeston.
Survivors include: one son and daughter in-law, Tom and Molly Dawson of Plant City, Fla.; one daughter, Susan King of Abilene, Texas; and four grandchildren.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service time at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. The Rev. A.J. Wollenberg, pastor of Concordia Lutheran Church, will officiate.
