PUXICO -- The Rev. Lloyd Barks, 77, died Aug. 25, 2012, at his home.
Born Jan. 20, 1935, in McGee, to the late William S. and Bessie Steward Barks, he had lived in St. Louis for 20 years before moving to the McGee and Puxico area. He was a retired General Baptist minister and had pastored the Bright Prospect General Baptist Church at McGee, worked for McDonnell-Douglass in St. Louis and had a custom hay hauling business. He was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Puxico.
On Aug. 21, 1954, at Zalma, he married Ruby Wills who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son, Steve Barks of Gilbertsville, Ky.; four daughters, Shelia Jones of Puxico, Sharon Simmers of Cape Girardeau, Karen Hughes of Bernie and Cheryl Welty of Advance; three sisters, Mary Johnson of Watson, Okla., and Irene Hendrix and Berniece Adams of Puxico; and 10 grandchildren and 10-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Sherman Barks, Ivan Barks, Eli Barks and Joe Barks, and two sisters, Goldie Marie Hefner and Berta Lee Barks.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the First General Baptist Church where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Kenneth Lambert of Bloomfield officiating assisted by the Rev. Steve Jones.
Burial will follow at the Puxico Cemetery.
The Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Puxico is in charge of arrangements.
