SIKESTON -- Some drug money will now help busted dealers get where they need to be: jail.
The purchase of a diesel van for $33,639 from Don Brown Chevrolet in St. Louis, the only vendor to respond to the request for bids, was approved by the Sikeston City Council during their regular monthly meeting Monday.
The van will be used as an out-of-town transport vehicle for the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, according to DPS Director Drew Juden, as DPS makes frequent trips to the state hospital for mental evaluations along with daily runs to area jails.
The purchase will be made using part of $58,000 in drug seizure money the city received as its share which may only be used for equipment and efforts related to drug enforcement.
