EAST PRAIRIE -- A grant of nearly $100,000 will be used to reduce infant mortality and improve the health of women in their childbearing years.
The Susanna Wesley Family Learning Center in East Prairie was recently awarded $99,694 in grant funding by the Missouri Foundation for Health. The MFH Women's Health program funding will be used over a two-year period to educate area women about nutrition, exercise and healthy living.
Martha Ellen Black, executive director of the Center, said that unlike most programs to reduce infant mortality and increase healthy birth weight rates, this program will not target just teen and impoverished mothers.
"The purpose of the program is to improve the health of all women of child-bearing age," Black said.
